We did rush down the WA coast a little. We could have lingered longer at quite a few places, but we had mail to collect, and as it included Greg’s Fremantle Half Marathon package we needed it before the weekend. So we arrived Friday afternoon after a really easy drive across Perth. It was strange being in Perth in our own car, having only ever flown there previously. Day 82 – The Freo Half
The Fremantle half marathon is pretty much the only reason we decided to spend four nights in Fremantle. You see I am planning another attempt at the Six Foot Track, a 45 km ultra marathon from Katoomba to Jenolan caves in the Blue Mountains west of Sydney. I had to pull out of the event in March this year because I got sick just weeks beforehand and didn’t recover in time to run. However, in order to enter the race again I need to qualify and to qualify I need to run the 28 km Two Bays run on the Mornington Penninsula south of Melbourne, in January next year. Day 77-79 The Batavia Coast
Geraldton is just a hop skip and a jump down the road from Kalbarri. Our plan was to blitz the town in less than a day and move on to spend the night at a free camp further south. We’ve decided that on the whole we like free camping for one night stop overs. Not just because they are free but because it is an altogether different experience away from the van parks. Amongst other things free camps have introduced Amy and Oliver to the joys of camp fires. They are also becoming connoisseurs on public toilets, discussing very matter of factly amongst themselves whether ‘…it is a drop toilet…’ and rating their cleanliness.
